Suitable Terrains
Our trailer dollies perform best when moving on relatively firm, level surfaces. This can include:
- Asphalt and cement
- Packed gravel
- Firm dirt and grass
When it comes to hiking however, soft or uneven terrain is not the trailer dolly’s strong suit! Some surfaces can limit the mighty capabilities of these powerful machines. These treacherous terrains can include:
- Loose gravel or sand
- Large boulders or rocky surfaces
- Soft, wet, or muddy ground
Maximum Grade % per Model
Trailer dollies can help maneuver trailers into tight spots, but they can only combat the forces of gravity to a certain extent. To make sure the grade percentage of your surface is suitable for your trailer dolly, we have a tutorial video on How to Measure Grade / Slope of Driveway. The maximum grade percentage varies between models:
- Scout 3K – 3% grade
- Force 5K & 10K – 6% grade
- Carrier 13K – 4% grade
- Transformer 15K – 4% grade (or 6% if used for a trailer that weighs less than 10,000 lbs.)
Tongue Weight and Traction
For all models, ensure the proper amount of tongue weight is applied to the dolly for the best parking experience.
Recommendations
- The 6.5” wide tires on the Force and Transformer models are rated for a variety of terrains, including asphalt, packed gravel, and firm dirt and grass.
- The Scout's 10" tire allows this manual dolly to turn on a dime. For optimum safety and control, we recommend operating this model on firm level surfaces.
- The Carrier's 12" flat-free semi-pneumatic tires and staggered 6-wheel design allow this model to traverse over uneven surfaces with ease, while maintaining a low profile.
