If your tires are spinning, or you are unable to gain enough traction to move over a small curb, this is likely caused by low trailer tongue weight. This issue can be commonly found with bottom-heavy or lighter trailers.
To increase traction, we recommend trying one of the following strategies:
- Shift more weight to the front of your trailer to increase the total tongue weight carried by the trailer dolly. This can be done in a few ways:
- Manually add or adjust the placement of cargo or weights on the front half of the trailer to increase overall tongue weight OR
- Use an alternative connection method, if the overall weight capacity of your trailer dolly allows for this:
- Jack Post: Lower your trailer's Jack post directly into the dolly's receiver tube, following the standard connection process. The trailer should rest as close to the dolly’s tires as possible to reduce strain on the jack shaft.
- Telescopic Frame Adapter: Moves the trailer dolly's connection point towards the trailer’s tires, putting more tongue weight on the dolly.
- Lower the trailer dolly’s tire pressure. This can work especially well for our Force 5K or 10K models. (Make sure that the pressure does not go below 20 PSI.)
